Korphous Scavenge Dispute

on Fri Nov 17, 2017 8:08 pm
A Korphous vessel enters the gravity well of a barren solar system. Very few planets orbit the comparatively cold sun and the nearby planetoids are covered in ice. A thick ring of asteroids surrounds the solar system yet the ship managed to exit hyperspace within the crowded asteroid belt. The commander of the vessel at a derelict space station orbiting the third planet of the lifeless system. While the station emits now thermal, electrical, or biological signals it appears mostly intact. "Bring the ship close to the orbital structure! Get a boarding party ready for matter translocation!" the Captain spits in a forceful guttural tongue. Suddenly alarms begin screeching on the deck and a nearby technician approaches the commander's throne. "Commander H'agnloph, an unknown vessel appears to be exiting hyperspace nearby! It's energy signal does not match any of the ships we have in the database!" the technician hacks forcefully. "Get to the engine room and begin charging sublight engines, send a message to the artillery crew and have them charge the photonic array! Train the cannons at the projected location of materialization, be prepared to fire at my word." The Captain sternly commands. Crewmates hussle anxiously aboard the scout ship in preparation for potential combat. The Captain looks nervously at the ship's damage report. The last ruined station they had attempted to scavenge was equipped with an automated defense system. They had been unprepared and thus were in no condition to fight. "I hope these planetborn weaklings are willing to depart in 'peace', otherwise I might have a bloody situation on my hands." The Captain thinks to himself stressfully.

A space vessel exits hyperspace only a few thousand kilometers away from the Korphous vessel. The vessel appears to be heavily damaged, with a large hole in its upper flank. Scans would show no life signs detected and most systems are down or disabled. A few cables stray outside from the hole in its side, and a dead body from some alien race floats, captured in the entangling ropes. Occasionally, a radio signal emanates from the ship. The message is usually, "Hello? Anyone there?"

The commander lets out a muffled sigh of relief and turns to the communications officer. "Begin scanning the alien vessel, search for biological signals and any potential energy sources." the Captain grunts. The communications officer makes several precise taps on a luminous screen and initiates a thorough scan of the vessel. The commander presses a small button on the palm of his exosuit and commands "All boarding crew, prepare yourselves with weaponry and thermal sensors. We have reason to believe there may be organics on this vessel." The commander then turns to the communications officer "Once the scan is complete see if you can establish a visual link. If this really is a ship of previously unencountered design then chances are it won't be compatible with our comms systems. Nevertheless, it never hurts to try."

A preliminary scan of the ship shows biological matter within the ship, but no vitals from any of the matter. Most systems are down, but the engines do appear to be functioning and a moderate power source is still active within. The ship itself appears to be an engineer's ship, commonly containing a crew of engineers that travel to various settlements and stations to perform maintenance. The body tied inn the cables appears to be a Vorith, which is a common alien race comparable to humans, with similar mental capacities and physical anatomy, having white skin with large black eyes helpful on their dim planet. The radio signal, however, is talking in human English, despite this being and uncommon language among the Vorith. "Hello? Can anyone help me?" The voice sounds to be a young male, with a raised tone of fear and confusion.
